General information

Taylor/Smyly Counseling Services offers a comprehensive outpatient substance abuse treatment program for adults, ages 18 and over. The treatment program is tailored to the individual client; this includes level of care, length of treatment, and treatment plan/goals. An initial assessment is conducted to determine the client’s individual needs and a treatment plan is developed from this assessment.

Our outpatient treatment program consists of three phases: (1) intensive outpatient (2) relapse prevention and (3) aftercare. The length of each level of treatment is based on individual needs, rather than a “rubber stamp” approach. The following phase descriptions include the minimum length of treatment in that particular phase.

The intensive phase is comprised of approximately twelve weeks of therapy, with the client attending two group therapy sessions and one individual session per week. Each client is asked to sign a program agreement, outlining the expectations/responsibilities of the client. Participants must attend a minimum of three sober support groups. The focus of this phase is on issues that may prohibit the client from maintaining abstinence, including co-existing mental health issues.

The relapse prevention phase is comprised of approximately twelve weeks of therapy, with the client attending one group therapy session and one individual session per week. Participants must attend a minimum of three sober support groups during this phase. The focus of this phase of treatment is knowledge of relapse signs/symptoms, identifying personal relapse triggers, and developing a relapse prevention plan.

The aftercare phase of treatment is comprised of approximately twelve weeks of therapy, with the client attending either one group therapy or one individual session biweekly to monthly. This phase is a maintenance phase, with the focus on maintaining the changes that the client has achieved and learning how to integrate recovery into their overall lifestyle.

Throughout treatment, clients are expected to approach their treatment in a responsible manner, which includes a commitment to abstinence from alcohol/drugs, regular therapy attendance with a minimum of absences, punctuality in attending their appointments, and consistent payment of their treatment costs. Failure to do so could necessitate a noncompliant discharge from treatment. Random testing for alcohol/drug use is utilized during an individual’s course of treatment

In addition to the outpatient substance abuse treatment program, we also provide both DUI and domestic violence/anger management education/treatment. Medical services are available for co-existing mental health issues through a network of community providers.
