In keeping with Quaker beliefs and values, the School fosters a desire to learn, a spirit of creativity, a strong sense of self-worth, and respect for the worth of others. We believe that each student comes to us with unique personal gifts. The Quaker approach to education celebrates the individual - encouraging students to maximize their potential to learn, build self-esteem, and come to appreciate their unique differences.

In the Fall or 2017, DVFS expands our scope to include 3rd and 4th grades - critical years in the education life of a student with a learning difference. We will become a three division school, with a Lower School (3-4-5), a Middle School (6-7-8), and an Upper School (9-12).

We have an exceptional track record preparing students to succeed in top colleges and beyond. A high percentage (95-98%) of DVFS graduates apply and choose to attend a broad range of higher education programs, including 4 year colleges and universities, top art and culinary schools, community colleges, and technical institutes. Many DVFS graduates go on to successful careers in business and the arts.

We are an Apple Distinguished School. We use state-of-the-art technology to support our research-based, multi-sensory teaching techniques and empower students to develop effective tools for their unique learning styles. Every student is provided with a laptop – a program DVFS pioneered over 20 years ago (1994).

Cutting edge teaching technologies, such as touch-screen controls, smart boards, laptops, specialized software, and digital camera display have been integrated into the classrooms and facility to create an optimal learning environment specially designed for students with learning differences.
