The Research Foundation for SUNY

General information

Founded in 1951, the RF exists to serve SUNY and to capitalize on the scope, scale and diversity of SUNY as an engine of New York state’s innovation economy. The RF exists to support SUNY. As a not-for-profit educational corporation, the RF supports nearly $1 billion in SUNY research activity annually. Areas of research encompass a vast range of disciplines including life sciences and medicine; engineering and nanotechnology; physical sciences and energy; social sciences, and computer and information sciences. The RF provides two core services:

• Sponsored Programs Administration - services that allow faculty to focus their time on research and instruction. The RF manages grant or sponsored program funds ensuring compliance with university, grant sponsor and government policies and procedures.

• Commercialization - services that support entrepreneurial opportunity and economic development. The RF provides tools that move SUNY inventions to the private sector for public benefit and connect business and industry with SUNY faculty, facilities and equipment.
