Virginia, born in 1909, dedicated her entire life to Walla Walla, except for her college days at the University of Washington. Donald, born in 1901 in Colville, Washington, arrived in Walla Walla upon entering Whitman College in 1918. Except during the war years, Walla Walla was his home.
Married in 1929, Donald and Virginia were a deeply and jointly committed team of one, working together to share their gifts of time, talent, and resources to improve the quality of life in the Walla Walla Valley.
The contributions of the Sherwoods are many. Among the most enduring is the Sherwood Trust, a legacy that they founded as a private foundation in 1991. Today, the singular focus of the Sherwood Trust is for the Walla Walla Valley to reflect the highest, sustainable quality of life for everyone.
