Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Maryland is an official academy under the Relson Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Association. All Senior instructors are direct students of Red Belt Grandmaster, Relson Gracie.

Grandmaster Relson Gracie is the second oldest son of Grandmaster Helio Gracie, creator and co-founder of Gracie Jiu-Jitsu/ Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Maryland focuses primarily on street self defense. Gracie Jiu-Jitsu has proven itself for generations through challenge matches and organized mixed martial arts competitions to be the most effective Martial Art for self defense that exists. While other martial arts rely mainly on overpowering an opponent with strength, speed and power; Gracie Jiu-Jitsu uses effective and practical technique, distance, timing, and leverage which allows a smaller person to defeat a larger opponent without the use of brute strength. This makes Gracie Jiu-Jitsu an ideal martial art for children,women and law enforcement. We always assume that our opponent is bigger, stronger, faster and more athletic so that we do not rely on strength but rather technique.
