Since our founding in 1978, William Harris Lee and Company has grown to become the world’s largest and most respected maker of fine stringed instruments. In our shop on Michigan Avenue in Chicago, more than twenty luthiers craft violins, violas, and cellos of incomparable quality, using tools and techniques that have been passed down through centuries of violin-making traditions. However, as you can see from our website, William Harris Lee and Company is more than a workshop. We also have an entire division, W. H. Lee Educational Strings, that is devoted to providing teachers, students, and their parents with instruments for both rental and sale that are affordable and uncompromising in quality.
